QuickdrawsUse of quickdraws
Carabiners must never be placed
directly on a safety point. If you do that the carabiner may open
beacause of pressure from the rock to the gate or because of a fall.
To avoid something like that we put a sling between the carabiner
which is on the safety point and the one that is on the rope. The
set of the two carabiners and the sling is called quickdraw.
Making a quickdraw
If you climb a route with permanent safety points its
better two have the gates of the carabiners facing to different
directions. When you climb a route where you use nuts to secure your
self do the opposite. It is better when the carabiner in which you
put the rope has a curved gate. That way it is easier to put the
rope in it. Is also useful to stable this carabiner on the sling
with a small piece of rubber so it is always in the correct position
to clip in the rope.
